“文化自觉”是费孝通先生于1997年在京大社会学人类学研究所开办的第二届社会文化人类学高级研讨班上首次提出，目的是为了应对全球一体化的势必发展，而提出了解决人与人关系的方法。”
“所谓文化自觉指生活在一定文化历史圈子的人对其文化有自知之明，并对其发展历程和未来有充分的认识。换言之，是文化的自我觉醒，自我反省，自我创建。”
“费先生曾说：文化自觉是一个艰巨的过程，只有在认识自己的文化，理解并接触到多种文化的基建上，才有条件在这个正在形成的多元文化的世界里确立自己的位置，然后经过自主的适应，和其他文化一起，取长补短，共同建立一个有共同认可的基本秩序和一套多种文化都能和平共处、各抒所长、连手发展的共处原则。”
